Sedation Options for Every Patient

  • Oral Sedation:
Used for mild to moderate dental anxiety, oral sedation involves taking a prescription sedative (typically Halcion) one hour prior to your appointment. You remain awake and alert throughout treatment, but very relaxed and unconcerned about the procedure. Oral sedation may be used for procedures like fillings, crowns, and periodontal, oral or implant surgeries.
  • Nitrous Oxide:
Breathing this odorless, colorless gas before and during your treatment renders you calm and even euphoric. Patients of all ages experiencing minor to moderate anxiety and receiving treatments ranging from routine dental cleanings to extractions benefit from the calming effects of nitrous oxide.
  • Local Anesthetic:
Local anesthetics are used to numb the teeth, gums and bone for procedures such as fillings, crowns, bridges, root canals, and periodontal or oral surgery. Used either alone or in combination with oral sedation or nitrous oxide, local anesthetic provides a pain-free visit and wears off a few hours after treatment.
  • IV Sedation:
Excellent for moderate to severe dental phobias, IV conscious sedation is administered by our Board Certified Anesthesiologist prior to complex procedures or multiple services like extractions, dental implant surgeries or full mouth reconstruction. You remain conscious and able to respond to instructions with IV sedation, but typically do not remember receiving dental treatment.
